Automated rules let you make changes in your account automatically, based on the settings and conditions you choose as the most important for your campaign management.
Using customizable rules will save your time by cutting down the need to monitor campaigns and make frequent, manual changes.
You can set up a new automation rule from any dashboard. Simply click on Create Rule button above the dashboard.
You will see three options:
- Create rule for All keywords in selected accounts
- Create rule for All keywords in all accounts
- Manage rules
Rules can be created for keywords in accounts, campaigns, ad groups. If you select certain accounts, campaigns or adgroups you will be able to apply the rule to all keywords in the accounts, campaigns or adgroups you have marked down. Here’s an example:
Create a new rule
Here we use a rule for any keywords that belong to the selected ad groups (Brand in this case). Once you click on the selection you will see a pop up.
In Search Ads HQ we currently offer 4 actions to be set up as an automated rule:
- Pause keywords
- Add keyword as negative
- Change bids
- Send email notification only
Change Keyword Bids action
This action will change bids by increasing or decreasing the bids for these keywords if they meet the conditions you apply.
You can choose to increase the bid by a fixed amount or percent.
You can also set up the upper bid limit.
You can use almost all your metrics to create meaningful conditions for your rule. You also can set up as many conditions as you want. You can add a few conditions. Notice that in this case the rule will apply if all of the conditions you specify here match with the rule.
Note that in range and not in range operators use inclusive bounds.
At the moment the standard frequency for the rules to apply is Daily at 9AM your organization time. If you need any other frequency please contact support.
Select the period that the system will use to apply the rule. It can use the data from the same day, last 7 days, same month, last month, etc. If you need a longer time period please contact support.
Make sure to name the rule to be able to recognise what it does with your data. First of all, make sure you mark down which ad groups, campaigns or accounts does this rule apply to and the action it does. This will help you quickly manage and edit the rules in the future.
Finally you will see a couple checkboxes.
If you wish to get a notification via email once the conditions are met, please tick the respective checkbox.
If you tick Apply this rule now checkbox in the form, your rule will apply immediately once you click Create Rule.
Bear in mind, that the system isn't as smart as you are, so you'll need to set appropriate limits for your rules and review your results occasionally to make sure the automated actions taken by the rules are the result of enough data. Sometimes you may want to reconsider the time period used, conditions set or the action to take.
To monitor and manage your rules navigate to Automation on the right side menu or hit Manage Rules in your Ads Manager > Create a Rule. You can see the list of the rules, their settings. Here you can enable/disable the rules and also delete those ones that are not relevant anymore.
Here you can pause or enable the rules, specify the rank (the rank controls the order of the rules to apply), change the rule name or click edit to make adjustments.
Once any conditions you set are met you’ll get a notification via email notifying you that a certain rule has been applied, telling you what condition was met and the number of keywords the rule was applied to.
Here you can download the report by clicking DOWNLOAD CSV REPORT with the list of these keywords.
